Unified Voice
Provides a unified voice that can deliver concerns, requests and suggestions to BC’s decision-makers. We are aligned with a number of other like-minded, adventure tourism sectors, who are facing many similar challenges
Liability Insurance
Access to a Commercial General Liability insurance policy for all full members in good standing. Association-wide property insurance for all interested.
Joint Marketing
Joint marketing and advertising. We have worked with Destination BC and its predecessors for over 15 years and have access of up to $250,000.00 annually in joint marketing funds.
Community
A sense of community with people in the same industry. That collaboration has seen substantial growth in the last 18 years. Sharing of ideas and support amongst association members.
Strength in Numbers
A unified body with strength in numbers. In 2007, we completed an independent socio-economic survey that allowed us to quantify exactly who we are and how important this sector is to the rural BC tourism industry. A second survey is just about to be launched.
Adventure Tourism Coalition
A collective of 18 diverse sectors, both public and commercial, who collaborate to represent and amplify the importance of our sector to the socio-economic health of BC, particular the rural areas of the province.Our executive director is currently the past-chair of this group, after serving as chair for 4 years.

Any organization or business who is engaged in a related industry and who supports the goals and objectives of the BLBCA. Please review the ‘Membership Criteria’ in section below.
Associate Membership
Submit an application (letter of interest) which may be approved by the Board of Directors.
The BLBCA will respond to the applicant with their decision on the application within 60 days of the application being received. During the 60-day period, the BLBCA BOD may ask the applicant for further information on their application.
Membership will be renewed annually and is due on the 1st day of December each year. New memberships purchased part way through the year will be prorated on a monthly basis. The rate of annual fees will be determined in consultation with the applicant and the BLBCA marketing team.
Associate Members may attend the BLBCA AGM. Associate members are not eligible to vote on any resolution placed before the membership.
Associate Members will consult with the BLBCA marketing team on specific and appropriate marketing campaigns. Strategic marketing initiatives will be explored. Associate members will receive acknowledgement with a favourable placement on the BLBCA website and be including in ‘specific’ social media campaigns.
Associate members are encouraged to attend and present on specific topics to the general membership at the BLBCA AGM.
Full Membership
- Submit a completed application approved by the board to the Board of Directors.
- Meet the application criteria for Full Member.
- Include a written application submission describing their backcountry operation, or proposed operation.
- Include copy of land permissions granted by the BC government, i.e. Park Use Permit, Adventure Tourism Tenure.
- Outline of business plan, type of activities, access, etc.
- Primary activities must be of a non-mechanized nature. Ancillary and operational, support activities can be of a mechanized nature where necessary and carried in a limited volume.
- Location for the primary operating facility(s) must be in the ‘backcountry’. Although there are many definitions available for ‘backcountry’, for the purposes of this process the BLBCA will ask that the following criteria be met.
- Primary facility will be located in a ‘wilderness’ setting, any development or settlement will be a reasonable distance away. Access will typically be gained by helicopter or pedestrian means. Operations utilizing ‘paved’ road access will not be accepted. Applicants that occasionally access their facility utilizing ORVs, snowcats or other off-road (4-wheel drive trucks) vehicles will be considered.
- Include a written application submission describing their backcountry operation, or proposed operation.
- Applications for Full Membership will include a letter of endorsement from an existing and current Full Member of the BLBCA.
- Include a written acknowledgement to agree to abide by the BLBCA Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Conduct, Operation Guidelines, Self-Audit Guidelines, and Self-Guided Recommendations.
- Membership will be renewed annually and is due on the 1st day of December each year. New memberships purchased part way through the year will be prorated on a monthly basis. The rate of annual fees will be determined during the annual AGM.
- Full members in good standing are entitled to attend meetings of the Association; elect Members of the Board of Directors and may vote on any resolution placed before the membership.
- There is a probationary period is one year from the date of application to ensure member applicant has met the BLBCA Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Conduct, Operation Guidelines, Self-Audit Guidelines, and Self-Guided Recommendations. Upon completion of the one-year probationary period; and with the BLBCA BOD’s approval, the applicant will be granted ‘full’ membership status in the BLBCA.
- The BLBCA will respond to the applicant with their decision on the application within 60 days of the application being received. During the 60-day period, the BLBCA BOD may ask the applicant for further information on their application.
